All Greek subtitles websites close after legal threat

All Greek subtitles websites stopped working after a legal threat of EPOE, a Greek company that represents most of the movie studios and protects their copyrights.

The websites that closed until now are: greektvsubs.gr, apsubs.com, greeksubs.com and subs4u.gr.

The subtitles provided by these sites were created by amateurs and they were not ripped by dvds. But, even in that case, they are supposed to be illegal.

As we read in their website, EPOE is a Company for the Protection of Audio-visual Works, in Greek, E.P.O.E. is a non-profit commercial company with legal personality, that functions as an organization for the collective protection of copyright and other intellectual rights of its members.

The situation started many reactions in Greece. On of the most known is a Facebook group that calls all the users to boycott the studios represented by EPOE.
