Announcements - 12/10/2008The new version of OpenOffice.org is finally here officially! The new version has tons of improvements. It's powerful, it's compatible with Mircosoft Office, it's easy to use, runs on all popular platforms and it's free. So what are you waiting for? Download it now!
When we open the new application, the first thing we see is the new Start Center, a window designed to welcome us and give us access to all the things we usually need to do. Open a document, start a new document, download templates or even download new extensions to increase it's functionality.

Other new features:

It supports ODF for saving files. It will be supported also from Microsoft Office 2007 in the next service pack.

Full support for Windows Vista and Mac OS X for Intel powered Macs.

Support for Microsoft Office 2007 documents

Many improvements on Calc graphs and functions. Calc also supports editing from many users the same time.

Writer has support for showing more than one pages the same time.

New Icons

Support for editing PDF files

Some support for VBA macros.
Another great imrpovement is the Extension Manager, that you can use to manage all the plug ins you download for OpenOffice.

The new version is a step forward for the whole open source community. In most cases, a simple user doesn't need anything more than this to work and he doesn't need to pay anything.
